Who we are

The Hmong Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Fresno, California. This policy covers the website at thehmonginc.com. It does not cover anything you do with us in person, by telephone, or at the Big Fresno Hmong New Year, and it does not cover other websites we link to.

The short version

We do not run analytics, advertising pixels, or visitor tracking of any kind on this site. We do not set cookies on your browser when you simply read the site. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information — not for money and not for anything else. The only personal information we hold from this website is what you deliberately type into one of our forms, plus the ordinary server records described below.

What we collect

Information you give us

If you complete a form on this site, we receive what you entered:

• Volunteer form — your name, email address, telephone number, the areas you offered to help with, and any message you wrote.
• Newsletter sign-up — your email address, and your name if you gave one.

These fields are stored in our own content system on our own server. They are visible to the staff and volunteers who run the office.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, our server keeps ordinary technical records. When you submit a form we store, alongside your entry, the IP address the submission came from, the page it was sent from, and the date and time. We keep this to recognise automated spam and to be able to tell one submission from a duplicate of it. Our web server also keeps standard access logs — IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser’s user-agent string — which are rotated and deleted in the ordinary course.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for and do not want your Social Security number, immigration status, date of birth, financial account numbers, or health information. Please do not put any of that into a form on this site. Donations made through Venmo or Zelle happen entirely on those services — we never see or handle your payment details.

Why we hold it

To reply to you, to organise volunteers for the festival and our programs, to send the newsletter you asked for, and to keep the site working and free of spam. That is the whole list. We do not build profiles and we do not use your information to target advertising.

Who else sees it

The categories of third parties that may receive information in connection with this site:

• Our web host. The site runs on a server operated on our behalf by our web developer, Boostify USA. They can access the server in order to maintain it.
• Google Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google’s font service, which means your browser contacts Google and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. We send Google nothing else.
• Google reCAPTCHA. Where we use reCAPTCHA to keep automated spam out of our forms, Google receives information about your interaction with the form in order to judge whether you are a person. Google’s own privacy terms govern that.
• Our network provider. Traffic to the site may pass through a content delivery network, which processes the request in order to deliver the page and to block attacks.

We may also disclose information if we are required to by law, by a court order, or by a lawful request from a government authority.

We do not sell personal information, and we never have.

Cookies and browser storage

Reading this site sets no cookies. If you dismiss the announcement banner at the top of the page, the site remembers that in your own browser’s local storage so it does not reappear on every page — that stays on your device and is never sent to us. Staff who sign in to the private content system receive a session cookie, which is necessary for them to stay signed in.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is still no common industry standard for how a site should answer one. Because this site performs no tracking of visitors across websites in the first place, we do not change our behaviour in response to the signal — there is nothing for it to switch off. We also allow no third party to collect personally identifiable information about your activity across other sites here.

How long we keep it

Volunteer and newsletter entries are kept until they are no longer useful to the office, or until you ask us to remove them. Server access logs are kept only for a short period for security and troubleshooting.

Seeing, correcting, or deleting your information

You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email TheHmongInc@yahoo.com or call (559) 552-2001 and tell us what you would like done. We will act on the request within a reasonable time, and there is no charge. You do not need to give a reason.

To stop receiving the newsletter, reply to any newsletter email or contact the office and say so.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information through this site, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and the content system is restricted to named staff accounts. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise — but we do not hold payment details or sensitive identifiers here, which keeps the consequences of any failure small.

A note on California privacy law

The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, applies to businesses operated for profit. The Hmong Inc. is a non-profit organization and is not operated for the profit of shareholders or owners, so those statutes do not apply to us. We have set out above how to see, correct, or delete your information regardless, because it is the right way to treat people whether or not a statute compels it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted on the home page for a period. Continuing to use the site after a change means the revised policy applies to you.
